Final Essay

Many students find essay writing difficult and frustrating. They know what they want to say, but when it comes to expressing themselves through an essay they encounter problems. Not only do they have to address the ideas of their topics, but thy have to follow the format. That's why it can be a little intimidating sometimes when it comes time to writing one. In this class we have learned that we shouldn't be scared of writing a essay because it's not as bad as it seems. Since the beginning of the year I remember as I walked into the class seeing a totally different layout than the rest of my other classes not just by the seating but also the lectures that were given out to us. As to my knowledge I thought that this class wasn't going to be that bad and it was going to be a bit easier than my other classes because we were only working on computers and in the journals. However, I was proved wrong we actually do a lot of work in this class here if we don't keep up we

HOW DID I DO?

AN OPEN LETTER TO ANYONE TEMPTED TO GIVE UP

Today.  This moment.  Right now.  You have a chance to be great.  To be honest.  To be kind.  To do your job.  To tell yourself a different story about yourself. I am perfectly well aware that some of you have a story that goes something like, "I always tell myself I'm going to do better at the beginning of a semester, and then..." I care very much about you and the quality of your life, so I'm going to take this moment to be honest. Knock it off. Your honesty is welcome too.  If you are dealing with difficult circumstances, or feelings related to anxiety or depression, this is an opportunity to be honest with a teacher.  Communicate.  Get some support.  Take responsibility for the outcome, and begin to take responsibility for your life.  I will honor your trust and I will listen.  I understand family and illness and all sorts of emergent adversity, and I understand stress, and I will work with you to figure out a solution. But I have had several conversations like th

SOCRATIC SEMINAR

We  were asked to conduct a Socratic Seminar. We spoke about how to create one and then did one. At first it was awkward because no one was willing to speak in front of everyone but later got used to it. In my group we were debating if the earth was shaped like a donut or not. We discussed that it couldn't be possible for the world to be shaped like a donut. Finally towards the end of the class period Dr. Preston was speaking about the whole topic of Socratic Seminars and how they are important when it comes to discussing certain topics openly in a group.

ON SELF RELIANCE PART 5

- people shouldn't try and be something else - it's important for people to know their worth - if you exercise your dreams the you will find yourself being a prince like the fable - in history our imagination plays us false - no one is superior than anyone else - we are all the same - just because some has luxuries doesn't mean their person is luxurious - if you stay original then you are worth a lot as a person - everyone  has the right to become of what they dream of but it's up to them to put in work and become it - we all are intelligent that's one of the reasons why we manage to stay alive - every man that will discriminate is due to lack of critical thinking

ON SELF RELIANCE PART 4

- a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds - to be great is to be misunderstood - due to Copernicus Revolution people found out that the sun was the center of the universe - instead of relaxing it's better to hear a call for action

ON SELF RELIANCE PT 3

-It's better to be honest than to try and be nice -

SELF RELIANCE PT 2

- WE CHOOSE WHAT WE WANT TO DO - WHEN WE ARE FOCUSED ON SOMETHING, WE AREN'T FOCUSED ON ANYTHING ELSE - IF YOU DON'T PUT IN THE WORK THEN DON'T EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS - DON'T THINK THAT THE YOUTH DON'T HAVE A VOICE IF THEY AREN'T WILLING TO TALK TO US - SOME YOUTH IS MORE MATURE THEN WHAT EMERSON THINKS - BE YOURSELF AND DON'T LET WHO YOU ARE DIE - FORMIDABLE DOESN'T NEED YOUR AFFECTION TO BE GREAT - IT'S A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BE WHERE YOU DON'T OWE ANYTHING TO ANYONE - SOCIETY EVERYWHERE IS A CONSPIRACY IN EVERYONE'S MAN/ WOMAN HOOD WITH ITS MEMBERS - YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO INVEST YOURSELF IN WHAT'S NECESSARY OR NOT - YOU ARE CAPABLE OF GREATNESS !!! DON'T BE A CONFORMIST !!!

FIRST IMPRESSION: ON SELF-RELIANCE

My first impression on this essay was that I saw that it was very long but after reading it I understood what the quotes and word meant. The essay was full of a lot of truths that have to do with us as a person. Epilogue: comes before chapter/essay; sets the tone "Our acts our angles are, or good or ill" - we should listen to our own thoughts as much as we listen to others - own your thoughts and be yourself - to imitate somebody is to kill yourself : the minute you change yourself or act like someone else is the minute you as a person dies -

LET ME WALK YOU THROUGH THE PEDESTRIAN

STORY OF MY LIFE

To make a long story short, I had uncles that the police had a lot of search warrants for especially 2. I remember as a little girl when the police would constantly go to my house and do searches for either of my 2 uncles. This is because both of my uncles used to live with us so the police had our address and knew that they lived with us. I remember one day that I was doing my homework in the living room and the police just busted in through the front door of my house because they had gotten a call that my uncles were somewhere around the area that we lived in. After they busted in through the door they ran up and down the stairs, flipping couches, beds and cabinets over to see if y uncles were hidden somewhere. They never found them in the house so they ended up leaving. Later, we found out that one of my uncles was caught but then later released.

THE VALUE OF MY TIME

The time investments that I am making today that are helping a bit with my stress but also giving me some sense on success is getting all my homework done and organizing my assignments so that I can sleep peacefully knowing that I finished everything I needed to get done. Time investments that I'm making that are helping with achieving future goals are expanding my learning by going to workshops, community service hours, charity events and communicating with business people that give me a piece of mind in the fields that interest me.

A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM

Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow — You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone ?  All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand — How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep — while I weep! O God! Can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?

FIRST IMPRESSION OF A DREAM

This poem mainly speaks on nature and humanity and how it can be questioned. It also speaks on how perception always isn't always what it seems to be. My first impression of the poem was that it was pretty deep because it points out and talks about certain things that aren't usually in a poem. It made me feel like I was reading a very detailed story.

MY THESIS STATEMENT

What I would like for the main point of my essay to be is to speak about each of the character's personality traits and tie them to real life situations with people that we know. Also, another good way to write the essay would be to compare some parts of the story to our lives or see if there's any similarities with the situations in the story with our lives. I believe that it's much easier to reflect on a story like "Young Goodman Brown" without a prompt because it's much easier to write something without boundaries, limitations or formats. In other words, often times it's less stressful to write what we think without a format instead of trying to write something that will fit certain types of requirements.

READ TALK UNDERSTAND

Today I learned that password security is very important. This is because if you have a very weak password then you have more chances of being robbed or hacked by someone. Statistics prove that every 2 seconds someone gets their identity stolen because they don't have enough security on their data. It's recommended to use a website called Last Pass that helps protect your important information. Most of the times people just write it down on a notebook and put it away but it isn't that secure anyways because it can get stolen or lost.

YOUNG GOODMAN BROWN QUESTIONS

1.) I think that Hawthorne's purpose for writing this story was to show that he will do anything to keep his wife alive and thereafter go to heaven. 2.)  Yes, I agree because he believes that anything he does is possible for his wife to be good, loving and have good health. Also, I do think that this name suits her well because it fits what he thinks about her although they lost some connection between each other. 3.) I think that the pink ribbons signify innocence and courage. 4.) I believe that it was a dream because it doesn't make sense that something like that would happen in real life. For example, "Faith with the pink ribbons, gazing anxiously forth, and bursting into such joy at sight of him that she skipped along the street and almost kissed her husband before the whole village." That's where it makes sense that it would be a dream because it shows that she's okay. 5.) I think that the old man really is just his conscience talking to him and tryin

THE EARTH ON TURTLE'S BACK

My first impression on  "The Earth on Turtle's Back", is that I liked the story. It's pretty interesting to hear that everyone in the tribe had to know the story. It's cool to hear that in this myth the ducks got out of the water and threw seeds on the soil which then commenced the life on Earth.

I CARE ABOUT YOUR UNDERSTANDING

The Hacker Manifesto was a essay written in January 8, 1986 by a man that was a computer security hacker at that time. This essay was written after the author's first arrest when he was caught hacking.  The essay speaks on how the public or society point him and the rest of the others out about being criminals, but in reality the people in power or even in the government are the biggest criminals there are. What is said and talked about in the essay to me is the truth because it states a lot of what goes on and what happens around us that isn't really brought up or spoken about. The writer of the essay spoke for everyone that has the same ideology as him and that face the same judgement that he faced of being put as the bad person for basically exploring what the people in higher power don't want us knowing.

VOCABULARY WORDS OF THE DAY

Vignette: a brief description Banal: ordinary Media is the plural word of medium

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE

Today I learned that it's very important to protect your personal data on social media and on the internet because it's a very easy target for a hacker to want to steal your information. It's important and necessary to change your password every 30 days to ensure that nobody gets into your accounts. There is a credible source that can help you secure your email which was Proton Mail. The 2 factor authentication method is a useful privacy protection system to use because it helps you protect your account better and gives you a code that you need to enter every time to log into our account to secure that it's you and not someone else. Media is the plural word of medium.

HOW I READ

My reading experiences have been pretty smooth and good. I believe that knowing 3 languages helped my brain develop and expand more which allowed me to learn at a more faster rate and make big complicated words much more easier to read and pronounce. I like to read in my free time or when I find a good book. I like to read books that are suspenseful but most of the times I will prefer to read books that I can relate to as a Mexican-American and of Mixteca descent. I get drawn to books that catch my attention and keep me interested, I don't like reading something that bores me after 5 minutes of reading it. For example, the textbooks here at school are very boring and dry. The stories have been the same for 15 years and they don't change. I think that stories that benefit us as students the most are books that we can relate too, that have something to do with each and every one of us and also something that connects to the whole world not just our surroundings.

HACK TO SCHOOL

Yes, I'm planning on coming to Back To School Night. My parents are going to come along with me. They are coming with me because they want to meet my teachers, see how I'm doing and because some of my teachers will give me extra credit. The people that support my success are myself, parents, aunts, uncles, friends and teachers.

COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES OF A HACKER

The Mentor's use of diction, syntax and tone effectively convey the message. This is because his use of diction is very sophisticated which allows communication and more people can relate to it. The diction is also formal and academic but, it also uses a variation of diction which allows a bigger audience to chime in. The syntax of the essay is unique because it doesn't stay with the same and traditional format of describing or stating facts; it has its own style of expression that captures the audiences' attention even more. The tone of the essay at the beginning is frustrated the, towards the middle the essay is defiant and at last the essay is inspirational. This means that the essay has a variation of tones which makes it more interesting and helps the author get his ideas across even clearer.

My Big Question

Why do innocent activists "disappear" after they have challenged the government system?

Consience Of A Hacker

The Hacker Manifesto was a essay written in January 8, 1986 by a computer security hacker. This essay was written after the author's first arrest when he was caught hacking.  The essay talks about how they point him and the rest out about being criminals when in reality the people in power are the biggest criminals there are. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION

The purpose of language is to be understood and it helps you understand others. We aren't entitled to our opinion even though the Bill of Rights says we do. Technically, we don't have freedom of speech because there are things that we can say but will get us in trouble, prosecuted or even disagreements. The Bill of Rights talks about rights that we all have till we are officially a grown adult but don't literally state that we are allowed to do it.

Train Your Brain Like a Champion

There are many different ways that you can train your brain to remember a lot of things. That are out there that anyone can learn. Some techniques will work for some but won't work for others so it's up to the person that is memorizing their information to find the technique that works for them and stick with it. There are 5 different techniques that are used the most for memorizing information, articles, poems or even speeches. These 5 techniques are repetition, the write it down, record yourself and listen, chunking and "mirror mirror".  Repetition consists of repeating over and over the phrase in order for it to stick to your memory. The write it down method is useful for some because by writing things down multiple times it exercises their brains and helps them remember more. The record and listen and "mirror mirror" method is used too because sometimes when you hear yourself repeating something and go along with the recording it helps you out to remembe

The Right To Your Opinion

The article was a bit difficult to understand due to the big words it includes but after reading it thoroughly I understood what it talked about. In my opinion, people do have the right to express their opinion and their thoughts but, when it's necessary, when it's useful or when it has to be done. This is because there are people that express their opinions but for pointless reasons or they just talk to talk.

The Socratic Method

I believe that the Socratic method can be a very useful tool for us to use. This is because it gets us talking and communicating with one another and helps improve our skills of presenting or even talking to each other or in front of a whole class. The method is good to be used in order to stimulate critical thinking, express ideas, and come up with more useful learning techniques for us to learn or even teach.
